CREAM OF THE CABLES

KING EDWARD’S TOUR.

London, 7th April.

His Majesty King Edward VII., who is at present on a visit to Portugal, yesterday witnessed a magnificent bull tournament, which had bee specially organised in his honor.

The tournament did not include a bull fight, but consisted of a purely spectacular display of gymnastics and skill in evading bulls, the horns of which had been blunted for the occasion.

(NOTA: A corrida de touros passou a ser, portanto, um mero espectáculo de ginástica acrobática com toureiros a fugir de bichos inofensivos. O rei Eduardo VII era o "patrono real" da Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals - RSPCA. É uma explicação para a deturpação dos factos e as mentiras...)

A re arrangement has been made in His Majesty’s itinerary, and he will not now reach Paris till the 2nd of next month.

It is expected that President Loubet will return the visit by coming to London in the autumn.

According to the Vatican authorities, King Edward will not visit the Pope on the occasion of his forthcoming visit to Rome.

The visit to Rome is only to extend over four days, and other engagements will occupy the King’s attention during the whole of that time.

It is expected that His Majesty will write to the Pope, regretting his brief stay, and express the hope of being able to visit his Holiness on the occasion of another longer stay in Rome.

8th April.

His Majesty King Edward sailed from Lisbon yesterday. The same enthusiasm marked his departure as was manifested upon his arrival.
